This time of the year brings about that, “out with the old and in with the new,” type feeling. Most of us are taking time today to write down or perfect our New Year’s Resolutions to make the most out of this coming year.
Committing to more personal time tops the list of goals many people want to achieve this year. This is because it's so easy to lose track of time with family, work, and social time all demanding our attention at once. Sometimes finding as little as 20-30 minutes a day of quiet, uninterrupted time can be a real challenge.
How often have you found yourself thinking or saying the following over the last year?
- "I just don't have time for that."
- “I need more time for myself.”
- "I'm so busy! I don't have even have a minute to think."
- "I need more hours in the day."
Intuitively, we all know that when we take time for ourselves to do fun things that we enjoy, pursue a passion, or even just relax and do nothing at all, we feel happier and healthier. Taking time for yourself allows you to renew, heal yourself, and find that inner peace.
It’s important to remember that no matter what we do, there are only 24 hours in a day. Asking for more time is never an option but you can always create more time. Some good ways to start are by reexamining your daily priorities, saying "no" more often, and engaging in smarter time management.
Never let yourself feel guilty about taking personal time. This is your moment to relax, recharge, and refocus. That way when you are ready to come back to your responsibilities you have greater focus, inspiration, and gratification.
